Wrexham have struggled with their last few games to get the whole squad together, leading to some disappointing close losses. It wasn't the case for the last game of the season. The Warriors went eight points ahead and kept Mold at an arms length throughout the game. Coach, Rich Holden was delighted to finish the season on a high "We should've finished the season in the top three but have had a couple of disappointing games this season. Everyone worked hard in the game and played some great basketball. We now need to aim at winning the cup on 8th May at Deeside Leisure Centre, although on paper it is Caernarfon Celts to lose. We're looking forward now to next season as numbers are growing at training and hopefully will continue to improve."

Under 16s Show Strength in First Game
Oct 14, 2015, 12:42 am

Rhys up for reboundWrexham Basketball's Under 16s went to St David's High School, Saltney, on Tuesday and took on the Bromborough Bulldogs in their first game of this season. They held the Bulldogs to s small margin of four points after the first quarter but Bulldogs started to creep ahead, finishing the half 14-8 ahead. It looked like Wrexham woul struggle to get back in the game at the end of the third with Bulldogs having a 28-18 lead. It wasn't to be. With Bulldogs in foul trouble and one of their key players being injured out the Warriors were able to press hard and gain some points on the turnovers. Coach Rich Holden lamented, "Maybe if we had put the press on earlier we could have won but we'll never know. The team worked hard but still has loads of room for improvement which augurs well for our future fixtures. You don't need to be a keen statitician to see where our strength is at the moment and so we need to have contingencies ready for when this doesn't work.

Wrexham Warriors Win First Game of Season vs Celts
Oct 6, 2015, 12:43 am

Andy Hazeldine attacksWrexham was hoping to field two teams again this season but has struggled with the reliability of players, as work commitments and movement of players out of the area has hit club numbers. However, they held their own from the outset at Glyndwr University on Monday night. Both teams were exchanging baskets for most of the game with Wrexham taking a small lead in the first but Caernarfon Celts finishing the half three points up. Warriors pulled Celts, lead back to one point in the third but it looked as if the final quarter was the Celts' as they ran away with a nine point lead after four minutes. However, Warriors dug deep and swapped from a zone defence to a man, putting the pressure on the Celts and forcing some turn over ball. Clever use of time outs allowed the Warriors to use some set plays to get back in the game and take Celts to extra time. Neal Allen gave Warriors a great start to the extra minutes as he scored a three in response to Cameron Jones' two point drive. Gareth, Gadge, Roberts went on to calmly sink two at the free throw line for Warriors, followed by a hard drive from Trevor Wellsted. Wrexham needed to then just lock the game down and not make silly mistakes, which they did, winning the game 71 points to Celts' 62. Top Scorers Wrexham Warriors: Trevor Wellsted 16pts Caernarfon Celts: Ben Lewis 16 pts.
